Database Administrator

The key responsibility for this role is to ensure the optimal performance of Smart database and associated functionality and essentially ensure that the Smart databases meet user requirements.

Responsibilities

atabase Support & Operations

  • Provide 24/7 support to ensure high availability, integrity, security, and performance of Smart’s databases.
  • Assist with database maintenance, installations, configurations, upgrades, and patch management for Oracle, MSSQL, and MySQL environments.
  • Perform daily backups, verify data integrity, and support restore processes.

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Monitor database logs, performance, and abnormal activities, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Provide first-level troubleshooting for database incidents and support customer service inquiries under defined SLAs.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, configurations, backup schedules, and incident resolutions.
  • Generate regular database performance reports and ensure compliance with database standards.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with senior DBAs, internal teams, and other departments to support business systems.
  • Stay updated on Smart solutions, current database trends, and attend training to enhance skills.

Requirements

 Qualifications

  • Holder of a bachelor’s degree in lieu demonstrate experience in database administration and professional qualification.
  • An experience of 2 years working with PostgreSQL
  • Strong PostgreSQL query writing, tuning skills, and shell scripting
  • Hands-on knowledge of backup and recovery methods and tools
    • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery including data replication
    • Solid understanding of Linux and Windows Server environments.
    • Familiarity with automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Kubernetes for DB deployment/management.
