We are seeing an increasing gap in awareness and adoption of AI in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), which can lead to long-term and irreversible digital divide between LMICs and High-Income Countries. At Dalberg Data Insights, we democratize AI access for impactful organizations by: 1. Designing AI/data strategies and solutions

SCOPE OF POSITION
As a Tech Lead, you will:
Drive the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge data and AI solutions.
Lead a technical team of developers and data professionals across multiple projects.
Collaborate closely with internal teams and clients to translate social impact challenges into scalable, secure, and maintainable digital products.
Engage in business development efforts, contributing your technical perspective to proposals and identifying new opportunities for impact.
Help shape Dalberg Data Insights' technical direction and mentor future leaders
Responsibilities
- Deep understanding of technology's role in advancing social impact.
- Experience engaging with public or development sector clients, particularly in LMIC contexts.
Technical skills:
- 5+ years of experience across full-stack, data, or AI/GenAI engineering roles, with team leadership responsibilities.
- Proficiency in one or more of: Python, SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript, and frameworks like React, FastAPI, LangChain, Axios, etc.
- Strong foundation in software development principles, solution architecture, and agile methodologies.
- Ability to translate high-level problem statements into robust, scalable technical architectures.
- Experience with data engineering, cloud deployment, and web application design.
Project & team leadership:
- Experience resolving blockers, ensuring code quality, and improving team velocity.
- Skilled in mentoring junior developers and promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable engaging clients and stakeholders, understanding evolving needs, and adjusting technical direction accordingly.
- Work authorization in Kenya.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Prior experience working in development contexts or LMIC settings.
- Familiarity with GenAI tools, machine learning algorithms, and their application in decision support tools.
- Understanding of UX/UI principles for user-friendly product development.
- Experience contributing to technical thought leadership or open-source communities.
- Strong business acumen and experience contributing to technical sections of proposal development.
- Ability to balance business needs with technical feasibility, driving results in resource-constrained environments.
