The Africa Christian Health Associations Platform (ACHAP) is a regional organization of Christian Health Associations and networks covering several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa established through a declaration of commitment by the 3rd Africa Christian Health Associations Biennial Conference held in Bagamoyo, Tanzania in January 2007. ACHAP brings together more than 40 national level faith-based networks providing services in 32 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa to share resources, establish technical working groups (TWGs), and provide ongoing training and technical assistance (TA) to its members. In addition, governments see ACHAP members as critical players and, in many African countries, partner with them to provide health support services, even to government facilities.

To contribute to the reduction of HIV stigma and discrimination, ACHAP plans to engage two short-term technical assistants to support in the implementation of frameworks for dialogue approach which engages religious leaders, People living with HIV and key health stakeholders to address HIV and AIDs Challenges in Kilifi Kenya and West Nile Uganda.

Objectives:

  • To support implementation of framework for dialogue as a joint approach to addressing stigma and discrimination.
  • To support in building capacity of religious leaders as champions against stigma and discrimination in their respective denominations
  • Support sensitization of health care workers, in affiliated facilities to have a conducive environment for service delivery that is stigma free.
  • Support in the delivery of messaging on paediatric HIV in collaboration with the county.

Key responsibilities:

  • Revamp the existing committee and strengthen committee capacity to steer the framework for dialogue.
  • Coordinate religious leaders training on basic counselling skills and advocacy to reduce stigma and discrimination.
  • Coordinate training of health care workers on stigma and discrimination at health facility.
  • Document and write reports on activities as well as monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Participate in key stakeholders meeting in the county including the MoH, other project partners and key stakeholders on relevant HIV technical engagements at and sub-national levels.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Community development, Sociology/ Social or Behavioral Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health, or related fields.

· At least 1 years’ experience of HIV implementation at grassroot level to include designing monitoring and evaluation as well as related training.

· Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently a multi-cultural team.

· Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.

· Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
