Kenya Commercial Bank Limited is registered as a non-operating holding company which started operations as a licensed banking institution with effect from January 1, 2016. The holding company oversees KCB Kenya – incorporated with effect from January 1, 2016 – and all KCB’s regional units in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and South Sudan. It also owns KCB Insurance Agency, KCB Capital, KCB Foundation and all associate companies. The holding company was set up to among other things to enhance the Group’s capacity to access unrestricted capital and also enable investment in new ventures outside banking regulations, achieve operational and strategic autonomy for the Group’s operating entities and enhance corporate governance across the Group and oversight in management of subsidiaries.

The Position: 

Reporting to the KCB Group Regional Businesses Director, this position is directly accountable for the general management and oversight of KCB Capital Ltd, a growing subsidiary of KCB Group Plc.

This role represents a significant career and economic opportunity for the right person. It is envisaged that the role incumbent will leverage his/her experience, network and industry special ties to generate high quality transactions. The role oversees the Advisory, wealth and brokerage business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing strategic advice to the board of directors.
  • Communicate and maintain trust relationships with shareholders, business partners, regulatory bodies and the general public.
  • Prepare and implement comprehensive business plans to facilitate achievement by planning cost-effective operations and market development activities.
  • Work with internal functions, development partners, industry participants and government agencies to come up with opportunities that generate value to the business.
  • Conduct business development activities to identify, source and introduce potential clients for Advisory transactions.
  • Analyze problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions to ensure company survival and growth.
  • Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are well communicated within the company and that they are followed at all times in line with internal and external regulations.
  • Maintaining a robust deal pipeline for the advisory business both internal and external.
  • Maintaining a robust investor network for continuous linkage to deals across all sectors on capital raise, acquisitions, buyouts, and restructures.
  • Maintaining the leadership position of Company’s wealth business in terms of market share, volumes, profits, etc. and ensure continuous growth.
  • Supervise and mentor staff members. Train team on transaction structuring / execution, lead generation, pitch development, and presentations to potential clientele.

The Person:

For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:

  • Relevant professional experience (8 – 10 years) working either within the Capital markets in investments, Investment banking, fund management environment or a strategy consulting firm.
  • Degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics from an accredited college/university and/or relevant professional designation.
  • Have a proven leadership record of originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing significant transactions, particularly equity or debt investments, M&A, transactions involving private equity funds and joint venture arrangements
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills and background.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, solid research skills with the ability to lead and work well. in a team environment and/or independently
  • Ability to source and contact potential HNWI for growth of Wealth Portfolio.
  • Initiative — must be a self-starter, able to work independently with drive and motivation
  • Commercial outlook — desire to generate revenue in cooperation with other entities of KCB Group to spur growth of all business lines using internal networks.
  • Have appreciation and operating knowledge of the regional banking industry (especially operating dynamics of East Africa), market and global trends as well as challenges
  • Sound understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements of corporate governance, business and banking operations of East Africa.
  • Demonstrable ability to adapt and operate in a matrix management and reporting environment.
  • Highest standards of personal conduct, professional performance and business ethics.
