Description

Our Client, National Housing Corporation (NHC) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament Cap. 117 whose mandate is to implement the Government’s Housing Policies and Programmes. NHC is seeking to recruit results-driven and highly motivated individuals to fill the following exciting and challenging positions of Legal Officer II.

The Legal Unit of the Corporation serves the following functions: coordination of all legal matters, providing legal and secretarial services, and, ensuring adherence to and compliance with statutory and other regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Corporation Secretary, Legal Officer II will be responsible for the following legal aspects:

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draw standard legal documents such as charges, discharge of charges, sale agreements, affidavits, MOU’s, partnerships and joint venture agreements, as well as transfers;
  • Process title documents for Corporation’s properties;
  • Attend court for hearings on matters related to the Corporation and prepare witnesses in liaison with external advocates;
  • Prepare draft contracts under guidance and direction from the Legal Officer I;
  • Advice on employment contracts and service level contracts with various service providers;
  • Proof-read contract documents, agreements, and MOU’s to ensure the interests of the Corporations are protected; and
  • Attend to all correspondences of a legal nature in respect of loans advanced by the corporation

Requirements

Job Specifications

  • Be a holder of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized University;
  • Be a holder of a Postgraduate Diploma in Law;
  • Have three (3) years experience in law practice or as an advocate or Legal Officer;
  • Must be admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya; and
  • Be a member of the Law Society of Kenya or other recognized professional body.

Key Competencies

  • Knowledge of computerized systems relevant to the position.
  • A highly analytical individual with the ability to gather, analyze and evaluate facts and with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
  • Demonstrate excellent managerial and leadership skills and an effective communicator;
  • Personal integrity with good work ethics and knowledge of principles of good corporate governance;
  • Ability to establish and retain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Candidates will be required to satisfy the following additional requirements:

  • Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority;
  • Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board;
  • Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;
  • Report from an Approved Credit Reference Bureau; and
  • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission

Remuneration & Employment Terms

Grade 09 – Gross: Ksh. 114,774 – 159,889 Per monthGrade month

All positions will be on a three (3) year renewable contract.

Successful candidates will be subject to performance contracting.
