Role Summary

As Head of Dark stores, you will own, execute, and continuously improve Jumia’s Dark Store strategy focusing on new market entry and building scale in existing markets. Reporting into the EVP New Retail, this role involves partnership with both global and country  leadership to drive impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day to day operations, performance management and execution of the Dark Stores roadmap to build scale and sustainability across 10 African markets
  • Refine Jumia’s broader Dark Store strategy and philosophy in relation to growing grocery as an independent category; tapping into best practices derived from trial launches in markets such as Ivory Coast and Kenya
  • Define metrics and performance milestones for country-level road maps with a view to drive new customer growth and customer retention
  • Collaborate with commercial and logistics leadership teams to build optimal assortment and enable efficient logistics and delivery operations; in keeping with individual market needs
  • Manage projects that leverage synergies and integrate dark store operations within our current commercial, tech and logistics capability framework

Knowledge, Skills and Expertise Required

  • Entrepreneurial drive; with a passion to propel growth in an emerging, high potential vertical
  • Stellar analytical skills, with an ability to use data to steer decision-making
  • Strong communication and negotiation ability; across multiple stakeholder groups (both locally and functionally)
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability at senior management level, with a proven track record of managing projects
  • People management capabilities – in particular with influence skills (rather than hard hierarchical reporting)
  • Experience working in Dark Stores, Grocery within the E-Commerce/Food Delivery sector is preferable but not mandatory
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in relevant field
