Working closely with grassroots movements and international partners, the organization empowers communities through inclusive planning, housing, and advocacy.

To support its continued growth and impact, the organization is seeking a highly competent Finance Manager to lead its financial operations, compliance, and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of financial expertise, strategic foresight, and commitment to accountability in a non-profit, donor-funded environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the maintenance of effective accounting systems in compliance with IFRS, Kenyan law, and donor requirements.
  • Lead monthly and annual closings, including general ledger and reconciliations.
  • Coordinate statutory and donor audits with external auditors.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Lead the development of organizational and project-specific budgets.
  • Track expenditures against budgets, analyzing variances and recommending adjustments.
  • Provide financial forecasts and advise leadership on risks and sustainability strategies.
  • Support cost optimization across programs and departments.

Grants Management & Donor Compliance

  • Ensure donor funds are tracked, utilized, and reported in line with agreements.
  • Prepare financial reports in donor-specified formats and timelines.
  • Collaborate with program teams to ensure financial alignment with grant deliverables.
  • Support financial due diligence processes for existing and prospective funders.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure timely filing and payment of statutory obligations (PAYE, VAT, NHIF, etc.).
  • Monitor changes in local regulations affecting financial operations.
  • Maintain robust internal controls and proactively mitigate financial risks.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, banks, and external stakeholders.

Accounting & Treasury Oversight

  • Manage daily accounting functions, including cash flow, payroll, receivables, and payables.
  • Oversee banking relationships and ensure sufficient liquidity for operations.
  • Maintain and optimize accounting software and systems for efficiency.

Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Supervise and mentor the finance team to foster high standards of performance.
  • Enhance financial literacy among non-finance staff through regular training.
  • Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and fiscal discipline.

Organizational Support

  • Collaborate with other departments on procurement, grants, and partner financial oversight.
  • ​Execute any other finance-related tasks assigned by the Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus)
  • CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent certification (mandatory)
  • ​At least 7 years of progressive experience in finance, including 3+ years in a senior role within a donor-funded NGO
  • Solid grasp of Kenyan tax laws and statutory compliance
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing teams and financial systems
