Job purpose

The Finance Manager is responsible for the Finance function of the  company to Perform financial analysis and reporting as needed and as  per the laid down procedures and in accordance to the Public Finance  Management Act, 2012.

Reporting relationship

This position reports to the Managing Director.

Supervisees

The position supervises the Finance department/function staff

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of this position are:-

  1. Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as payroll, invoicing, and other transactions
  2. Track the company’s financial status and performance to identify  areas for potential improvement
  3. Seek out methods for minimizing financial risk to the company
  4. Provide insightful information and expectations to senior executives to  aid in long-term and short-term decision making
  5. Present financial reports to board members, stakeholders, executives,  and clients in formal meetings
  6. Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software  to be used for financial purposes
  7. Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company
  8. Advise colleagues and executive management on decisions related to  the company’s finances.
  9. Supervise the documentation of the company’s financial status and forecasts.
  10. Mediate between the organization, employees, stakeholders, shareholders and investors on financial issues for amicable resolution of  differences.
  11. Create strategic business plans based on the analysis of the company’s status and financial forecasts.
  12. Develop department budget and work plan
  13. Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for the department and Company
  14. Prepare Board management papers for approval
  15. Identify procurement needs of the department
  16. Prepare and review departmental policies and accounting manuals in line with international financial standards and government regulations.
  17. Budget preparation/cash flow management review to ensure sustainability and giving strategic advice to board/CMT
  18. Manage reporting of financial statements/performance to board/CMT
  19. Participate in strategic planning and implementation.
  20. Establish and ensure application of sound financial policies (e.g.  financial manual for the company), systems and procedures for  the company in compliance with statutory regulations.
  21. Conduct periodic review of actual performance against budget  and explaining any variances if any
  22. Control expenditure for decision making.
  23. Ensure the performance of the Finance department is effective  and efficient
  24. Deal with banks/ financial institutions.
  25. Responsible for physical assets assigned by the company
  26. Makes strategic, operational and financial decisions for the department
  27. Prepare a report for each quarter of the financial year, and at the end  of each financial year, prepare a financial statement in respect of the  Company in a format prescribed by the Accounting Standards Board.
  28. Not later than three months after the end of each financial year, prepare annual financial statements for that financial year and submit  them to the County Treasury for consolidation and submission to the  Auditor-General for audit and other relevant offices.
  29. Identify training needs for the departmental staff and recommend  appropriate development opportunities to address the needs
  30. Participate in the recruitment of staff within the department, Mentor and coach departmental staff, Plans the work of subordinates, and  assigns work to subordinates and Monitors subordinates work  performance.
  31.  Appraises/evaluates subordinates  performance
  32. Work closely with the CMT in all areas
  33. Performing related work as may be required.

Requirements for Appointment

  1. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or any other Business￾Related Field
  2. CPA (K), ACCA or relevant professional qualification.
  3. Member of a relevant professional body and in good standing
  4. 7 years' experience with a minimum of 3 years in a managerial or  supervisory position
  5. Experience in financial reporting is an asset
  6. Interpersonal communication skills is
  7. Demonstrable experience in the development of donor funding  proposals
  8. Ability to work beyond the call of duty
  9. In-depth knowledge of financial reporting standards , tax regulations  and industry legislation
  10. Excellent ability to problem solve along solid analytical skills,  understanding of business process, and systems optimization
  11. Must be computer literate.
