Position: Dental Assistant (1position)

Reports to:  Dental Office Manager

Department:Clinical

Job purpose 

The overall purpose of this job is to provide patient care in line with hospital’s values, mission and vision.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Assisting the dentist and COHO during a variety of treatment procedures.
2. Taking and recording dental radiographs (x-rays).
3. Asking about the patient’s medical history and taking blood pressure and pulse.
4. Serving as an infection control officer, developing infection control protocol and preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment. Also sharpening dental equipment.
5. Ensuring that patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment.
6. Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling).
7. Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health;(e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counselling).
8. Performing office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer.
9. Helping to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including orthodontics, paediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery.
10. Maintaining dental equipment and x-ray machine.
11. Maintaining dental equipment inventory.
12. Fabricating temporary restorations and custom impressions from preliminary impressions.
13. Follow company policies to ensure proper discretion and procedures are used.
14. Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements

1. Certification in an accredited dental assistance program.
2. Proven 1-year work experience as a Dental Assistant.
3. Experience using computers for a variety of tasks.
4. Good written and verbal communication skills.
5. Consistently have professional appearance and attitude.
6. Able to provide great patient care.
7. Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations (OSHA).
