Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participating in menu planning and development.
  • Preparing and production of high–quality food that meets the desired customer satisfaction.
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety at work.
  • Accounting for all production resources provided and issued from the stores.
  • Proper handling and use of kitchen equipment.
  • Ensuring that waste is kept at minimal levels by using creative cooking methods.
  • Preparing and serving all foods and beverages at the cafeteria and during other functions.
  • Ensuring opening and closing duties are done accordingly.
  • Responsible for all kitchen activities in the absence of the chef.
  • Providing guidance to interns and kitchen stewards.
  • Executing food control standards in dispensing the established food portions.
  • Performing any other duty assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • KCSE Certificate with a mean grade of C–.
  • Diploma in Food & Beverage production & Service or its equivalent
  • 3 years’ experience as a cook preferably in an institution of higher learning, star rated hotel or comparable organization.
  • Valid food handlers’ certificate
  • Computer literacy
  • Attention to detail, creativity, passion and sense of business.
  • Knowledgeable of food safety regulations.
  • Ability to work in a fast–paced environment and multi task
