Living Goods supports networks of ‘Avon-like’ health entrepreneurs who go door to door to teach families how to improve their health and wealth and sell life-changing products such as simple treatments for malaria and diarrhea, safe delivery kits, fortified foods, clean cook stoves, water filters, and solar lights. By combining the best practices from business and public health, we are dramatically lowering child mortality AND creating livelihoods for thousands of enterprising women. Living Goods supports a network of over 2,000 micro-entrepreneurs in Uganda and Kenya who teach families in their communities how to improve health and well-being while selling affordable, high-impact products like basic medicines, fortified foods, water filters, clean cook-stoves, and solar lights.

Your Charge

Our community health workers are natural connectors in their communities. They know the power of immunizations to prevent childhood deaths and family planning to prevent unplanned pregnancies. They also have trusting relationships with families necessary to increase vaccine and contraceptive coverage.

To match our community health workers as connectors in the community, we’re looking for a Program Manager to serve as the connector to the County Health Management Team, County community health focal persons at county and sub county levels, community health workers, community health extension workers and other stakeholders at county level. . A passionate public health professional with a track record managing field-based public health programs. Knowledge of innovative ways to increase demand and coverage of immunizations and contraceptives. Experienced in community health systems strengthening. The ability to collaboratively manage projects from beginning to end. And the people skills to maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.

Your background

  • Public Health experience. You have 8+ years’ experience working on public health programs or research and an MPH, MA or MS in public health, social sciences, international development or related field.
  • Health Systems: Experience in health systems strengthening including technical assistance approaches, coaching and mentorship of government teams.
  • Policies: Well versed with health policies development and implementation.
  • Project management skills. You know how to break down a project into manageable parts and timelines. From a strategy and budget, you can work with your colleagues to create activities and plans. You deliver within timelines and budget
  • Budget management. You are capable to develop budgets and work plans
  • Organizational skills. You thrive at creating order out of chaos and at setting and monitoring goals and objectives.
  • Write well and speak simply. You can write about complex topics like family planning, immunization and community health systems strengthening. Instead of a dense program update you can write a readable report. You know how to hook people’s attention and tell a good story.
  • Analytical skills. You understand data, are able to institute and drive data use practices to enable high performance, achievement of key performance indicators and quality service delivery
  • Problem solving skills. You know how to identify problems and find solutions. You like to get things done in a structured, methodical way. You can challenge status quo respectfully
  • Partnership maintenance skills. You have worked on projects funded by multilateral or bilateral donors such as USAID, GAVI, DfID or The Global Fund. You know how to build and sustain the confidence of donors, government and other implementing partners. You know how to navigate partnerships at county level
