Description
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from an institution recognized by Medical practitioner and Dentist Council.
- Master’s degree in Pathology.
- Certificate of registration by the Medical practitioners and Dentist Council.
- Demonstrate professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance and results.
- Served as a Medical specialist-Pathology for a period of at least one (1) year.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Head laboratory/pathology services at Garissa County Referral Hospitaland Garissa Cancer Center report directly to the Medical Superintendent. He/she will supervise laboratory staff and services in the laboratory unit of the hospital to ensure timely laboratory services within the expected standards, complying with the established ethics and regulations.
- Microscopic evaluation of cytology and surgical specimens submitted to the laboratory and preparation of personalized reports for clients on the findings of these studies.
- Telephone consultations with laboratory clients regarding interpretation of laboratory data or other laboratory-related issues.
- Participation in the laboratory Quality Assurance programs.
- Supporting the Head of hospital in maintaining the turnaround times of all specialized pathologist reports within the established laboratory goals.
- Coordinate and provide laboratory research and training within the hospital.
- Work with other medical specialties to solve single or multiple medical issues.
- Monitor and evaluate progress and achievement of the laboratory unit
and services, research in the hospital, prepare and disseminate periodic reports appropriately.
- Undertake managerial responsibilities, such as planning the workload and staffing of the department when needed.
- Carry out research and keep up to date with new information relevant to your field.
- Maintenance of personal professional competency and participation in the continued professional development by self-study, attendance at scientific meetings, and participation in internal training programs.
