Responsibilities
- Conducting regular inspections of the construction site to monitor progress and identify any issues.
- Inspecting construction work and comparing it with drawings and specifications.
- Measuring and quality checking building materials.
- Identifying defects and suggesting ways to correct them.
- Communicating with contractors, architects, engineers and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
- Maintaining records of site activities, including progress reports, site instructions, and any variations.
- Ensuring that all work is carried out to the required standards, specifications, correct materials, workmanship and schedule.
- Checking that building regulations, health and safety, legal and ecological requirements are met
- Identifying potential risks and defects early on, preventing costly rework.
The requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Electrical, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering and knowledge of construction standards, laws, and regulations
- License or practicing certificate from the relevant professional authority.
- At least 3 years’ experience in Facilities Management, preferably within a school setting
- Good understanding of (and experience in) project management.
- Strong practical experience in construction supervision or site management

The position
The Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya (AKES, Kenya) operates 5 schools in various cities in Kenya and provides nursery to senior secondary education in both national and international curricula. It is part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private development agencies working to improve living conditions and opportunities for people of all faiths and origins in specific regions of the developing world.
We are seeking to fill the below post within at The Aga Khan Primary School, Kisumu (AKPSK) which offers Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) from Grade 1 to Grade 9.
Position: Clerk of Works.
Position Summary
As a clerk of works you will be responsible to oversee and inspect construction projects to ensure they are built according to the agreed-upon plans, specification, quality standards and health & safety requirements. Act as the client’s representative on-site, monitoring the quality of both materials and workmanship.
