Description
The Kenya Universities and colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) is a corporate body established under the Universities Act 2012 to succeed the Joint Admissions Board (JAB). The Service is governed by the Placement Board. In the performance of its functions, the Placement Board seeks to promote equity and access to university and college education, by among other things, developing criteria for affirmative action, for the marginalized, the minorities and persons with disabilities. The placement Board also seeks to establish a criteria to enable students access the courses for which they applied taking into account the students’ qualifications and listed priorities. Notwithstanding any other provisions of this Independent Part, a university or college may independently admit students to its programmes in accordance with its approved admissions criteria.

Job Purpose
Providing legal advice to ensure the best legal approach is taken by the Placement Service
Job Responsibilities
- Providing legal advice to ensure the best legal approach is taken by the Placement Service
- Drawing up and submitting contracts, agreements and other legal documents;
- Preparing and monitoring of the Division’s budgets and expenditures;
- Undertaking research on different information to ensure the Placement Service is acting in accordance with all applicable laws;
- Preparing Quarterly Legal Reports;
- Acting on regulatory changes or issues;
- Preparing Board Resolutions, Action Points, Board Reports and Board Minutes;
- Identifying legal and compliance risks and issues relative to the Placement Service’s intended actions;
- Managing the risk exposure of the Placement Service by ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements
- Liaising with external lawyers on all cases filed against the Placement Service to ensure instructions, witnesses and statements are procured on time;
- Working with external lawyers to initiate lawsuits or to formulate a defense, to gather evidence in legal proceedings involving the Placement Service and rendering general advice relating to any legal proceedings involving the Placement Service; and
- Acting on claims that may be made by the Placement Service in debt recovery; and
- Representing the Placement Service in litigation matters.
Minimum Job Qualification
- A minimum of Five (5) years relevant work experience in the Public or Private Sector;
- Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized institution; (iii) Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education;
- Admitted as an advocate of the High Court Kenya;
- Proficiency in computer applications;
- Attended a Management Course lasting not less than 4 weeks;
- Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution; and
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance.
